Sad… Data loss…
How many of you have had a hard drive fail? It sure is depressing. So much data, $100+ hard drive gone in an intstant. The most annoying part, when you could have prevented it.
With me, it happened after I’d bought a new esata enclosure. I put one of my 750GB HDDs in because I had to get some stuff that night when I went out. I only planned to keep it in there that one night, then put it back in my PC.
But, I didn’t. Instead, I took it out somewhere else the next night. And in the morning, I was using it, it was plugged in, and I got up for a minute. Tripped over the cord, looked back, and saw the enclosue on the floor, HDD now silent.
After turning it on now, it won’t spin up at all.
$110AUD wasted now, I probably can’t get it replaced under warranty. ITestate are hopeless for that anyway. I was looking at getting another HDD soon, to use with my external enclosure permanently. Looks like I’ll have to replace this one first. Most of the stuff on there is replaceable, but it’ll take a while. OS drive backups, PS2 isos and applications, PSX isos, emulators, games, programs, and… My website designs. Unless I’ve got some backed up, or on another PC, I’ve lost my site designs.
No fun.
Well, although it will take a while, at leastI know I can get most of it back, and HDDs are getting increasingly cheap. I’ve also got my sweetie beside me, and she’s all I ever need.
Hard drives are nice too, but they aren’t everything.
